These sleepers are supplied as untreated fresh green oak, allowing the natural character of the hardwood to shine through. Oak is naturally dense and durable, with an expected lifespan of around 20 years for typical landscaping use without preservative treatment. Left untreated, the timber will gradually weather to an attractive silvery-grey colour, while oak oil or a suitable exterior stain can be applied if you prefer to maintain or enhance its natural colour.

These sleepers are made from fresh green oak and are supplied untreated. This means the natural grain, colour and character of the oak remain visible, giving each sleeper an individual appearance.
When exposed to sunlight and weather, untreated oak will naturally change colour and gradually develop a distinctive silvery-grey patina. This natural weathering can be left to develop without additional treatment.
If you prefer to retain the original oak colour or achieve a darker finish, a suitable oak oil or exterior timber stain can be applied. Any treatment should be specifically suitable for oak and exterior use.
Fresh green oak is a natural organic material and each sleeper will have its own unique appearance. Knots, splits, cracks, waney edges, movement and variations in colour and grain are natural characteristics and should be expected.
