Product Description
Green treated timber railway sleepers are a versatile and practical choice for landscaping, garden construction and DIY garden projects. Whether you are creating a raised flower bed, building a retaining wall, edging a lawn or adding steps to a sloping garden, these rough sawn softwood sleepers provide a sturdy and attractive way to create long-lasting garden features. Their traditional timber appearance works equally well in cottage gardens, contemporary gardens, allotments and larger landscaped spaces.
Made from sustainably sourced softwood and available as individual sleepers, this range gives landscape gardeners and home DIYers flexibility when planning projects of different sizes. Choose from compact 1.2m sleepers for smaller garden projects, standard 2.4m lengths for general landscaping, 3m sleepers where longer runs are useful, or the larger 240mm x 120mm section when a more substantial sleeper is required. The sleepers can be cut to length, allowing them to be adapted to bespoke raised beds, garden borders, retaining structures and edging.
The sleepers are green pressure treated to help protect the timber against rot, fungal decay and insect attack. Treatment varies by size, with the 1.2m, 3m and larger 2.4m x 240mm x 120mm sleepers being UC3 treated with an expected lifespan of around 8–10 years, while the 2.4m x 200mm x 100mm option is UC4 treated and offers an expected lifespan of up to 15 years. This makes the UC4 sleeper particularly useful for demanding landscaping projects where timber is being used in permanent ground contact.

Timber Appearance & Maintenance
Green pressure treated sleepers have a natural green appearance when supplied and will gradually weather outdoors. Exposure to sunlight and rain can cause the timber to change colour over time, developing through lighter brown tones before eventually taking on a natural silvery-grey appearance.
As natural softwood products, every sleeper will be individual. Colour variation, knots, splits, wanes and differences in grain should be expected and form part of the natural character of rough sawn timber. These characteristics are not necessarily defects.
If you want to maintain or alter the appearance of the sleepers, a suitable exterior wood stain or timber treatment can be applied in accordance with the treatment manufacturer's recommendations.
Where sleepers are cut to length, any newly exposed timber should be treated with a suitable wood preservative to help maintain protection to the cut surfaces.
