GT PP40 40mm Ground Reinforcement Grid is a heavy-duty permeable ground reinforcement system designed to create strong, stable and hard-wearing surfaces for grass and gravel applications. Also known as a gravel grid, grass grid or ground stabilisation grid, PP40 is ideal for driveways, car parks, access roads, pedestrian paths and other areas exposed to regular vehicle or pedestrian traffic. Each square metre comprises four interlocking 500 x 500 x 40mm pavers, providing a straightforward installation system that forms a continuous reinforced surface.
Manufactured from 100% recycled, UV-stabilised plastic, GT PP40 provides a tested load-bearing capacity of up to 350 tonnes per m² when filled, subject to correct installation, suitable ground conditions and the completed surface construction. Each paver features 25mm ground spikes on the underside to help anchor the grid and resist lateral movement caused by repeated vehicle movements. The open-cell design securely retains angular gravel while also allowing grass roots to establish throughout the cells, creating a reinforced but permeable surface.
PP40 provides a versatile alternative to impermeable surfaces such as concrete, tarmac and block paving. It can be filled with sharp angular gravel or established with grass, allowing water, air and nutrients to move through the open cellular structure. Suitable for domestic and commercial applications, PP40 can be used for grass and gravel driveways, car parks, emergency access routes, cycle paths, wheelchair access, caravan parking and SuDS Source Control schemes. For grass applications, the open-cell structure of PP40 provides space for grass roots to spread both vertically and horizontally through the grid. This allows water, air and nutrients to reach the rootzone while the PP40 grid provides additional structural support to the finished grass surface.
The result is a reinforced grass surface that can withstand regular pedestrian and vehicle traffic more effectively than an unreinforced lawn or grassed area. This makes PP40 suitable for grass driveways, grass parking areas, access routes, emergency access and other areas where maintaining a natural green finish is desirable.
GT PP40 is particularly effective as a gravel reinforcement grid. Its cellular structure retains angular aggregate within individual cells, helping to reduce gravel movement, spreading and displacement caused by repeated vehicle movements.
For gravel installations, sharp, angular aggregate is recommended rather than rounded pea shingle. Angular gravel provides better interlock within the cells and helps create a more stable finished surface.
PP40 is therefore well suited to gravel driveways, parking bays, access roads, caravan parking and other areas where loose gravel needs additional structural reinforcement.

When correctly installed, water can pass through the grass or gravel-filled cells and into the underlying ground. This makes PP40 suitable for Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) Source Control applications where ground conditions and drainage design are appropriate.
Adequate drainage should be established before installation. Poor underlying drainage can affect performance, so the supporting ground conditions should be assessed as part of the overall project design.
The PP40 paver profile is designed to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. This helps reduce the risk of lifting or deformation associated with temperature changes when the system is correctly installed.
This feature makes PP40 suitable for long-term outdoor ground reinforcement projects where surfaces are exposed to changing weather and seasonal temperatures.
