GT Turf Reinforcement Mesh TR4 is a 660gsm heavy-duty turf reinforcement mesh designed to provide permanent reinforcement and protection for existing grass, lawns and turf areas exposed to frequent pedestrian, bicycle, wheelchair and animal traffic. Manufactured from part-recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, TR4 provides a robust reinforcement layer that allows natural grass roots and swards to grow through and intertwine with the mesh. This creates an interlocked grass and mesh structure that helps distribute weight more evenly across the surface, reducing concentrated wear and helping create a stronger, more durable grassed area.

TR4 is ideal for frequently used grass walkways, lawn reinforcement, wheelchair access routes, large dog runs, garden paths, play areas, nature walks and commercial grass pathways. It is also suitable for applications such as regular wheelbarrow access and slope stabilisation where grass or vegetation is being established. The mesh can be installed directly over suitable existing grass without soil removal or excavation, providing a fast and cost-effective alternative to conventional hard landscaping while helping maintain the natural appearance of the grassed area.

The raised, slip-resistant structure provides additional surface grip, while a thin layer of sand can be used where further traction is required. How TR4 Turf Reinforcement Mesh Works

TR4 reinforces an existing grass surface by allowing the grass roots and swards to grow through and intertwine with the mesh. As the vegetation establishes, it forms an interlock between the grass and reinforcement mesh, helping spread pedestrian and other light traffic loads more evenly across the surface.

This reinforced structure helps reduce concentrated wear and abrasion while providing additional support to the grass surface and root structure. The 660gsm construction makes TR4 a robust option for grass areas experiencing more frequent use than would typically be expected from a standard lawn.

As the grass continues to grow through the mesh, the product becomes increasingly concealed within the turf. This allows the reinforced area to maintain a natural-looking lawn or grass pathway while benefiting from additional surface reinforcement and stability.

Installation Guidance

TR4 is designed for straightforward installation directly over a suitable existing grass surface. Prepare the area to ensure the ground is stable, reasonably even and appropriately drained before rolling out the mesh.

Secure the turf reinforcement mesh firmly using suitable Turf U-Pins, ensuring the mesh remains securely positioned while the grass establishes through it. No soil removal or excavation is required when installing directly over suitable existing grass.

Once installed, allow sufficient time for the grass to grow through and become established within the mesh. This establishment period is essential to achieving the intended reinforcement. Avoid using the area too early, as premature trafficking can cause sinking, bumps, grass damage or movement of the mesh.

For best results, the grass should generally have been mown at least three times before the reinforced area is brought into regular use. Where additional grip is required, a thin layer of sand can be applied over the mesh.

Performance and longevity depend on soil type, drainage, ground stability, traffic levels, frequency of use and correct installation. TR4 is particularly suitable for existing grass on heavy clay and loam soils where the underlying ground is stable.
