  • + Product Description

Create thriving wildflower habitats in challenging low-light environments with Wildflower Shade Tolerant Matting Turf, a specialist ready-to-lay wildflower turf designed to establish and flourish in shaded and partially shaded locations. Ideal for planting beneath trees, along woodland edges, and in areas with dappled sunlight, this premium wildflower matting provides an easy and effective way to introduce biodiversity and seasonal colour where traditional wildflower meadows can struggle.

Containing a carefully selected blend of over 40 wildflower and grass species, with approximately 80% wildflower content, this turf creates a rich and diverse habitat that supports pollinators, birds, mammals, and beneficial insects. Developed using an advanced soil-less growing system, it offers improved drought tolerance and strong establishment across a wide range of soil types and site conditions. Flowering from April through October, it delivers months of colour while contributing to biodiversity enhancement, ecological mitigation, and sustainable landscaping objectives.

Suitable for projects ranging from small domestic gardens to large-scale Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) developments, Wildflower Shade Tolerant Matting Turf provides rapid results, low maintenance requirements, and long-term environmental benefits.

    Installation Guidance

Prepare the area by removing all weeds, grasses, and existing vegetation. Cultivate the soil to create a level, fine tilth and ensure good drainage. Lay the wildflower matting immediately after delivery, tightly butting each section together without overlaps or gaps. Firm down thoroughly to ensure good root-to-soil contact and water generously after installation.

    Watering & Establishment

    • Water thoroughly immediately after laying.
    • Maintain regular watering during the first two weeks, particularly in dry weather.
    • Once established, additional watering is only required during prolonged dry periods.
    • Avoid excessive foot traffic during establishment.
    • Check rooting progress regularly during the first few weeks.

    Maintenance

    • Requires only one annual cut, typically at the end of the growing season.
    • Remove all cuttings after mowing to maintain species diversity.
    • Monitor and remove invasive weeds where necessary.
    • Avoid soil disturbance once established.
    • Take extra care in heavily shaded areas beneath trees to prevent leaf litter accumulation.
