The Climatic Continental Fine Mesh Tree Guard is a premium black HDPE fine mesh tree guard designed to protect newly planted trees while encouraging healthy, natural growth and stronger stem development. Manufactured from durable photodegradable high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this flexible mesh tree shelter provides reliable protection from browsing animals while allowing excellent ventilation around the developing tree. As the material is exposed to sunlight over time, it gradually photodegrades, reducing the need for costly removal once the tree has become established.
Unlike solid plastic tree tubes, the Climatic Continental Fine Mesh Tree Guard has over 47% open air space, allowing continuous airflow through the guard. This helps prevent moisture and humidity from becoming trapped around the stem, reducing the risk of soft, weak or slimy bark and creating a healthier growing environment. The open mesh also encourages natural stem movement, helping young trees develop stronger trunks while providing a flexible and wind-resistant form of protection.
The generous diameter and flexible mesh construction provide plenty of growing space without restricting natural development. The fine black mesh is suitable for a wide variety of forestry, woodland, agricultural, landscaping and conservation planting projects, including conifer planting and cricket bat willow plantations. The mesh design is also more wildlife-friendly than solid tree tubes, providing a surface that small birds and dormice can climb. The Climatic Continental Fine Mesh Tree Guard is available in two size options:
A compact 600mm high fine mesh tree guard suitable for smaller trees and planting situations where lower-level protection is required.
A taller 1.5m fine mesh tree guard designed for larger young trees and planting sites requiring increased protection.
For best results, Climatic Continental Fine Mesh Tree Guards should be securely supported during installation.
600mm tree guards:
Tree guards up to 90cm should be installed using two 90cm bamboo canes. This provides effective support while allowing the developing tree to move naturally in the wind.
1.5m tree guards:
The 1.5m guards should be installed using two square timber stakes to provide maximum stability, particularly in exposed locations and throughout the tree establishment period.
Please note: Square timber stakes and bamboo canes are not included with the tree guards and must be purchased separately.
